what is HIIT?

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training consists of short bouts of high intensity exercise separated by short periods of rest or low intensity exercise. A example of a really basic HIIT training session would be sprinting on the spot for 30 seconds followed by  a minute of rest or walking and repeating this for 8-10 times. In recent years as the status of HIIT has increased, many people have swapped there long and laborious treadmill runs with short 20 minute HIIT sessions.

why is HIIT good for fat loss?

The reason HIIT is effective at burning fat is because it not only burns calories during the workout but continues to do so afterwards.  This increase in metabolism is due to the high energy demands of HIIT and is the reason why these workouts only need to last 12-20 minutes.
