Sucralose is produced from sugar (sucrose), however it is a zero calorie sweetener as most of the sucralose is not absorbed by the body when consumed Sucralose is approx. 600 times sweeter than sucrose and therefore, can be used as a low calorie replacement to sweeten food and drink. It is the same sweetener used in a number of branded products.
Sucralose is approved for use as a sweetener within the EU after being assessed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) based on current usage by consumers and manufacturers; giving the ingredient it’s E number.
